Canadian Man Charged After Drunken Incident at Changi Airport

The charges include voluntarily causing hurt to deter a police officer, using abusive words against a public servant, and causing nuisance while intoxicated.

Details of the Incident

Police were notified at approximately 9:20 am.

Altercation with Airport Police

Upon the arrival of officers from the Airport Police Division, Crombie purportedly continued to use vulgarities. He is also accused of shoving and scratching one of the officers, who sustained minor injuries to his arms and was granted two days of medical leave. The incident led to his arrest.

Court Proceedings and Bail

Crombie appeared in court via video-link on October 7th while in remand. He was offered bail of $10,000. He requested permission to return to Canada briefly to address an emergency, but the police prosecutor advised him to secure bail first before making such a request. His case is scheduled to be heard again on October 21st.

Potential Penalties

If convicted of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant, Crombie could face imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine, or caning. Using abusive words against a public servant carries a maximum jail term of 12 months, a maximum $5,000 fine, or both. Causing nuisance while intoxicated may result in a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to $1,000, or both.
