Investigation Ongoing into Deaths of Three SAPS Constables Found in Hennops River

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has reaffirmed its dedication to providing a comprehensive report regarding the deaths of three constables whose bodies were discovered in the Hennops River earlier this year. The investigation into the tragic incident is still active and receiving focused attention, addressing growing public concern and questions from the constables' families.

Details of the Tragedy

The deceased officers have been identified as Constables Cebekhulu Linda, Keamogetswe Buys, and Boipelo Senoge. It is believed that the constables’ vehicle plunged into the river while they were travelling to Limpopo for a work assignment. The vehicle was recovered, and the bodies were subsequently found.

  • The incident occurred earlier this year, prompting a wide investigation.
  • The constables were en route to Limpopo on a work-related journey.
  • Public concern and family questions have grown in recent months.

Investigation Status and Findings

According to SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, both police and private specialists have submitted reports related to the investigation. However, crucial toxicology and other key test results are still pending. Preliminary post-mortem reports have been received, but conclusive findings are required to finalize the investigation.

“The investigation remains active and is receiving focused attention. Both SAPS and private specialists have submitted reports as prescribed,” Mathe said.

The final reports will include blood alcohol results, toxicology, and histology analyses. Mathe stated that physical evidence is still being analyzed. The SAPS relies on external specialists for certain examinations, making the process complex.

Challenges and Timeline

While the SAPS accident expert report has been finalized, it is not conclusive on its own. The outcome of the investigation depends on a combination of all expert findings. Due to the outstanding reports, providing a definite timeframe for the completion of the investigation is not currently possible.

The SAPS remains committed to finalizing the investigation diligently, acknowledging the sensitivity of the case for the families, colleagues, and the public. The focus remains on ensuring a thorough and credible outcome, and working towards closure for the families of Buys, Senoge, and Linda.
