Great Britain Takes 2-0 Lead Over Poland in Davis Cup 2025 Qualifiers

Great Britain is one step closer to the Davis Cup 2025 qualifiers after securing a 2-0 lead against Poland. Victories from Cameron Norrie and Arthur Fery put the British team in a strong position in their World Group 1 match.

Cameron Norrie, ranked number 34 in the world, faced a tough challenge from Tomasz Berkieta (world number 545) but ultimately won 7-6 (11-9) 6-4 in Gdynia, Poland. Meanwhile, Arthur Fery, ranked 227th globally, secured a decisive 6-4 6-2 victory over Olaf Pieczkowski.

The 23-year-old Fery made his unexpected Davis Cup debut after Jacob Fearnley, Britain's number three, had to withdraw due to a rib injury.

Britain's Path to the Davis Cup Final 8

Great Britain needs just one more win on Saturday to advance to February's first round of the Davis Cup qualifiers, giving them a chance to compete for the title in 2026. The team's doubles pair, Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash, are set to make their debut on Saturday, followed by two reverse singles matches.

After a 3-2 loss to Japan in the first round of this year's Davis Cup, victory in this tie is crucial for Great Britain to maintain its status among the elite. A defeat would result in a February play-off and potential relegation to World Group 2.

Jack Draper, ranked number seven, is unavailable for the tie due to an arm injury that has sidelined him for the rest of the season.

Davis Cup 2025: The Road to Bologna

The second round of qualifiers for the Davis Cup 2025 (September 12-14) will determine which nations secure a spot among the Final 8.

Top tennis nations worldwide are competing for the remaining seven berths at the Davis Cup Final 8, scheduled to take place in Bologna, Italy, from November 18–23, 2025.

Following the first round of qualifiers earlier this year, 14 teams remain in contention to join defending champions Italy at the finals. These teams will play home-or-away ties consisting of five matches: two singles on the first day, followed by one doubles and two singles rubbers on day two.

The team that wins the most matches in their best-of-five tie will advance to the Final 8 in November, with a chance to be crowned world champions of men’s tennis.

Players like Taylor Fritz (USA, world no. 5), Alex de Minaur (Australia, world no. 8), and Holger Rune (Denmark, world no. 11) are all hoping to lead their countries to the finals of the World Cup of tennis.
