Tragic collision happened Oct. 3 on State Highway 181
MISSISSIPPI, AR, (October 05, 2025) - Two people died and two others were injured as the result of a multiple-vehicle accident that occurred on Oct. 3 in Mississippi County.
Jan Sebastian Rabie was killed in a six-vehicle collision caused by smoke from a burning field that reduced visibility along State Highway 181.
The collision happened just before 4 p.m. on State Highway 181, north of County Road 650. Smoke from a farmer's burning field blew across the highway and reduced visibility, according to Arkansas State Police.
A woman driving a 2018 GMC Terrain struck a 2012 Kenworth tractor-trailer, causing the GMC Terrain to enter a ditch. A man operating a 2005 Kenworth then collided with the disabled 2012 Kenworth.
Jan Sebastian Rabie, 32, of Brookland, was driving the 2005 Kenworth. It caught fire following the collision, ASP said. He was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.
The impact pushed the 2012 Kenworth into a 2022 Ford F-250 truck. Another vehicle rear-ended a vehicle driven by two people from Keiser, pushing it into the ditch. That vehicle then struck the rear of the 2005 Kenworth.
The GMC driver was also pronounced dead. Two people from Keiser were injured in the collision.
The Arkansas State Police continues to investigate the crash.
CRASH INVESTIGATION Arkansas reported 590 roadway fatalities in 2023, a 7% decrease from the previous year and a 15% drop from the 2021 peak of 692 deaths, according to the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement. The state had the fifth-highest motor-vehicle fatality rate in the nation, with 19.4 deaths per 100,000 residents. Motorists accounted for 70% of fatalities, followed by motorcyclists at 16%, pedestrians at 12%, and bicyclists at 2%. Risky behaviors contributed significantly, with nearly half of motorist deaths involving lack of seatbelt use and 62% of motorcycle fatalities involving riders not wearing helmets. The most common contributing factors include speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving. “Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal. “An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM Pending the investigation, the family of Jan Rabie could pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this. “The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. “We understand just what families must go through, and protecting their rights is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
