What does Taylor Swift have left to prove after a successful Eras Tour and making it on the Forbes billionaires list? Well, there is an answer to that question.

With The Life of the Showgirl album out Oct. 3, the 35-year-old pop star is a one-woman race, according to music industry experts. “If one single goes No. 1, she’ll bury Drake in the 2020s race. Taylor isn’t competing with the industry anymore — she’s competing with herself,” an insider told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack. Her two limited-edition, vinyl albums sold out in less than 60 minutes, so Swift is proving that she’s already blown away her competition. “If anyone can beat Taylor, it’s Taylor,” the source added. As the BBC put it, she has essentially “built her own universe around her,” making her business ventures “too big to fail.”

“She has built this empire around her where no one can tell her what to do except Taylor herself,” says Tatiana Cirisano, a music analyst at MIDiA consultancy, told the U.K. outlet.

Like Beyoncé, interviews are rare, and when they do occur, the media outlet is carefully selected — Swift knows she’s walking into friendly territory. Honestly, though, she doesn’t need the press to help her out — Swifties are the best publicists and consumers all rolled into one. The “Blank Space” singer only has to put out one Instagram post to set the internet on fire.

Swift was able to take her master-of-her-own-universe idea to the next level when she was able to regain control of her music earlier this year. In May, she informed fans that she had reclaimed the rights to her masters via Instagram, of course.

“To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it,” she added, thanking fans for their support as the drama played out,” she wrote on Instagram. “I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now. I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away. But that’s all in the past now.”

Swift doesn’t have to worry if she wants to pull her focus away from music, either. Her “multigenerational” fanbase walks with her hand-in-hand. Those next stages of life include her bridal era with her just-as-much-tapped-in fiancé, Travis Kelce, and perhaps starting a family somewhere down the line. It offers endless possibilities from music to merchandise, and even a lifestyle line.

At this point in her career, Swift isn’t letting anyone else tell her story — she owns it all.
