Olivia Cooke Finds Sex Scenes "Humiliating"
Olivia Cooke, the 31-year-old actress known for her roles in "House of the Dragon" and "Ready Player One," has recently expressed her discomfort with sex and nude scenes, describing them as "humiliating" and deeply embarrassing. She is starring in the new Amazon Prime Video production 'The Girlfriend' alongside Robin Wright.
Challenges of Intimate Scenes
Cooke revealed that she struggles with both the practical and emotional challenges of filming intimate scenes. According to The Sun, she dreads finding intimate moments in the script, stating, "It's weird, isn't it? It's a weird part of the job. You see it pop up on the schedule and you think: Jesus Christ! For some reason, this has all happened since I turned 30. It happens quite a lot… it happens all the time. My career at the moment is like the humiliation of Olivia Cooke."
The Intimacy Suit Struggle
Preparing for these scenes can also be unpleasant for Cooke. She explained the awkwardness of wearing "intimacy garments," describing them as "a little piece of material with a silicone pad in it that you have to stick to yourself. And it's really hard because it's sticky, it twists, and the glue sticks together, so it's hard to put on." She found help from her wardrobe assistant, Alexandra Bland, who assisted her in applying the garment.
"The Girlfriend" and Past Roles
In 'The Girlfriend', Olivia Cooke plays Cherry, a glamorous real estate agent who begins a relationship with medical student Daniel (Laurie Davidson). Robin Wright plays his controlling mother, Laura. The series features a sex scene between Cherry and Daniel in the first episode and subsequent intimate moments interrupted by Laura. Besides "The Girlfriend", she is known for her roles in 'House of the Dragon', 'Bates Motel' and 'Ready Player One'.
From Social Housing to Hollywood
Reflecting on her career path in the 'Reign With Josh Smith' podcast, Cooke shared her surprise at her success. "I grew up in a former social housing building and didn't know anyone in this industry. It wasn't predetermined for me at all. I had big dreams, but I never thought they would come true. And then the dreams actually found me, and I was really overwhelmed by what happened."
