At a special sitting on Tuesday evening, Drogheda District Court heard O'Connor made no reply when police put the three counts of murder to him.

Dressed in a grey coloured sweatshirt and black tracksuit bottoms, he was expressionless as he appeared in the dock.

O'Connor has been with mental health services since he was 22, the court heard.

Defence solicitor Paul Moore applied for a psychiatric assessment for his client, and also for legal aid.

There was no application for bail.

O'Connor was remanded into custody by Judge Stephanie Coggans.

The defendant is due to appear in the same court via videolink on 6 October.
