Dominion Energy Crews Restore Power After Outages in Hampton Roads
Dominion Energy crews worked throughout Tuesday to restore power to thousands of customers across Hampton Roads following widespread outages. The outages, primarily impacting Virginia Beach and Norfolk, occurred throughout the day.
Extensive Outages Reported Tuesday
At the peak of high tide around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dominion Energy reported approximately 15,000 customers without power across Southeastern Virginia. Virginia Beach experienced the largest number of outages, with over 11,000 customers affected.
Norfolk Residents Initially Affected
The day began with nearly 5,000 residents in Norfolk without electricity. An outage reported around 7:30 a.m. impacted Dominion Energy customers in areas near Ocean View and Camellia Gardens. Residents in the Azalea Acres area also experienced power interruptions.
Restoration Efforts and Timelines
Initially, the estimated time of restoration was between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. However, crews worked diligently, and by 9:30 a.m., the number of affected customers in Norfolk was reduced to approximately 350. Griggs Elementary School in Currituck County initially started the day without power, but service was restored by 9:10 a.m.
