Singaporean Celebrities Share Memorable Mid-Autumn Festival Experiences
As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches on Monday, October 6th, we explore the cherished memories and traditions of several Singaporean celebrities. From lantern parades to family gatherings, each artist shares unique perspectives on this beloved holiday. Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for celebration and reflection, especially in Singapore.
Xu Bin: The Grandeur of Lanterns in the Park
Xu Bin recounted a memorable Mid-Autumn Festival a few years ago when he took his son to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. He was struck by the sight of numerous children carrying lanterns, creating a vibrant and heartwarming atmosphere. He marveled at the lively celebration of the festival in Singapore.
He mentioned that he and his children already celebrated the festival. "We've been making lanterns together for days, drawing, painting, wiring lights, and taking photos afterward."
Xu Bin added, "I almost went crazy. But recently, a fan sent me mooncakes with a cool Lego-like box. My children can assemble different styles of boxes by looking at the instructions."
Li Nanxing: A Busy Filming Schedule and Unique Mooncakes
Veteran actor Li Nanxing revealed that he will be busy filming during this year's Mid-Autumn Festival. However, he is enthusiastic about a uniquely flavored mooncake that he co-launched with partners, praising its exceptional taste. Li Nanxing's favorite mooncake remains the traditional five-kernel mooncake, appreciating its classic flavor and aroma.
Huang Siting: Fond Memories of Childhood Lantern-Making
Huang Siting plans to spend time with her family for a meal. She fondly remembers her childhood Mid-Autumn Festivals, where she would eagerly ask her mother to take her lantern carrying. She would also meet up with friends to carry lanterns together, and schools would organize lantern-making activities, making it a very joyful time during her childhood. Huang Siting has many fond memories attached to the festival.
Chen Bangjun: Barbecues in Taiwan during Mid-Autumn Festival
Chen Bangjun, who now resides in Taiwan, noted that the primary way of celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival in Taiwan is through barbecues. Unlike in Singapore, activities such as eating mooncakes, carrying lanterns, and solving lantern riddles are not as prevalent. He found this quite surprising when he first discovered it, noting that shopping malls often offer various barbecue platters during this time. Chen Bangjun said that if he is in Taiwan for the festival this year, he will celebrate with his family, especially his wife's family, by having a barbecue, sometimes even by a stream where the children can play in the water.
Liu Zixuan: Nostalgia for Homemade Tin Can Lanterns
Liu Zixuan will also be occupied with filming but intends to make time to have dinner and enjoy the moon with her husband, Tian Mingyao. If their schedules permit, they will also visit lantern displays. Liu Zixuan fondly recalls her childhood Mid-Autumn Festivals, where she would carry lanterns with her family and neighborhood children. They would create lanterns out of tin cans, with parents creatively adding wheels. All the lanterns were then displayed on a discarded four-wheeled vehicle. As her home was near the sea, they would often sit on the beach, enjoying mooncakes and admiring the moon.
