Luka Doncic Purchases Maria Sharapova's $25 Million Manhattan Beach Estate

Luka Dončić Scores a Manhattan Beach Home, Buying Maria Sharapova's Estate for $25 Million

Luka Dončić, the Los Angeles Lakers star, has purchased a Manhattan Beach property from retired tennis champion Maria Sharapova for a cool $25 million. The deal closed in late August, marking a significant real estate transaction for both sports icons.

Inside Dončić's New Beachside Abode

The modern three-story house boasts luxurious amenities. It features five bedrooms, a two-lane bowling alley, and a sprawling great room that seamlessly connects to the pool area. The residence offers both comfort and entertainment for the young basketball star.

Records obtained from PropertyShark.com and confirmed by the Southern California News Group indicate that Dončić, a 26-year-old Slovenian athlete, acquired the property through his business manager, Lara Beth Seager. Seager declined to comment further on the August 27th transaction.

A Prime Piece of Manhattan Beach Real Estate

Built in 2015, the house is situated on a lot just under a quarter-acre in the Hill Section. Dave Fratello, a broker with Edge Real Estate Agency and author of the MB Confidential blog, describes the area as being “known for large lots, ocean views and, as in the case of this home, stellar new builds.” He wasn't involved in the sale, but is very familiar with the area.

The Hill Section has become a popular spot for professional athletes. Former L.A. Rams quarterback Jared Goff, now with the Detroit Lions, is planning a mega-estate in the area after purchasing two adjacent lots. He bought a French country-style mansion for $10.5 million in May 2023 and the neighbor's house for $8.575 million in November 2023.

Sharapova's Investment Pays Off

Sharapova, 38, originally purchased the property in August 2012 for $4.1 million. She subsequently demolished the existing structure and collaborated with Los Angeles-based firm KAA Design to create a new custom home.

“I was obsessed with the process of making this home,” Sharapova told Architectural Digest in June 2019. “I’d jump off a plane from a tournament and go straight to the worksite or to the architect’s office or to a kitchen manufacturer. This was my project, and I wasn’t going to delegate any part of it.”

Design Details and Motivations for Selling

The property features a Japanese-inspired courtyard with a fountain hidden behind trees and an entry gate. Inside, a double-height foyer showcases a soaring glass wall, a floating staircase, and poured concrete and wood siding walls.

Disappearing glass walls connect the kitchen and great room to the outdoor deck, which includes a barbecue center, a dining area, and an outdoor fireplace near the pool. The basement houses the bowling alley.

The Wall Street Journal reported in July that Sharapova and her fiancé, British businessman Alexander Gilkes, were selling the home for $24.995 million to spend more time in Europe with their family. They also own a home in Florida. Susan Perryman of Carolwood Estates represented Sharapova in the sale.
