High-Speed Chase on Indiana Toll Road Leads to Arrest of New York Man
A New York man, identified as Daniyal Zaidi, 28, is in custody after leading Indiana State Police and other agencies on a high-speed pursuit across four counties on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025. The chase originated in Elkhart County and ended in Porter County.
The Pursuit Begins
According to reports, the incident began around 8:20 a.m. when Trooper Jathan Rose attempted to stop a gray Kia passenger car for speeding on the Indiana Toll Road near mile marker 93 in Elkhart County. Rose, driving a marked ISP Dodge Durango, activated his emergency lights, prompting Zaidi, the driver of the Kia, to accelerate and flee.
A Multi-County Chase
The pursuit continued westbound on the Indiana Toll Road, extending into St. Joseph County. Zaidi successfully avoided stop sticks deployed by assisting officers. The chase then entered LaPorte County, where he continued to evade capture, avoiding additional stop sticks before exiting onto State Road 421 and heading north. He then proceeded onto I-94 westbound, followed by State Road 49 north, before turning around and heading south. At one point, Zaidi disregarded a red light at a busy intersection on State Road 49.
The Chase Concludes
Zaidi re-entered the Indiana Toll Road, fleeing west at approximately 120 mph. Troopers successfully deployed stop sticks near the 26-mile marker in Porter County, deflating both passenger side tires of the Kia. The vehicle continued west through the Portage Barrier Toll Plaza before coming to a stop in a ditch on the north side of the roadway. Zaidi then complied with verbal commands during a felony stop and was taken into custody without further incident.
Charges and Detention
Daniyal Zaidi was transported to the Elkhart County Jail. He faces preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement and reckless driving. The pursuit covered approximately 67 miles across the four counties.
