Gaza Under Heavy Israeli Air Strikes Amid Ceasefire Talks; Dozens Killed Despite Trump's Peace Plan

Israeli airstrikes continue to batter the Gaza Strip, killing dozens of people across the territory despite renewed diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire, with delegations from Hamas, Israel, and the United States arriving in Egypt for talks.

Gaza health officials said at least 67 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes on Sunday, including 45 in Gaza City alone.

Among the dead were 18 people killed in an Israeli strike on a house in the Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City, medics said. The attack also damaged several nearby buildings.

In the wake of the attack, Hamas said in a statement that “the continuation of the occupation’s bombing and massacres exposes Netanyahu’s lies about reducing military operations against civilians.”

Earlier on Saturday, US President Donald Trump claimed that Netanyahu had “temporarily stopped” bombing Gaza. He urged the Palestinian resistance group to move quickly on his plan, “or else all bets will be off.”

Hamas responded to Trump’s proposal to end Israel’s two-year war on Gaza late on Friday, saying it had accepted certain key parts of his 20-point plan, including an end to the war, Israel’s withdrawal, and the release of Israeli captives and Palestinian prisoners.

Later on Saturday, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, “Israel has agreed to the initial withdrawal line, which we have shown to, and shared with, Hamas.” He added, "When Hamas confirms, the ceasefire will be immediately effective.”

Trump said, “The prisoner exchange will begin, and we will create the conditions for the next phase of withdrawal.”

Trump's plan envisions Israeli forces eventually pulling back to Gaza’s perimeter but provides no clear timeline.

A White House official said Trump was sending his envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to the Egyptian capital to finalize technical details of the captives’ release and discuss a lasting peace deal.

Egypt will also host delegations from Israel and Hamas on Monday, the country’s Foreign Ministry said.

Hamas’ response to the plan has drawn cautious optimism from world leaders, who urged an end to Israel’s nearly two-year war, which claimed the lives of over 66,300 people and left vast areas of the territory in ruins.

Some Palestinians, however, expressed concern that Netanyahu will ultimately sabotage the ceasefire and withdraw from any plan to end the war.
