Devils Place Recently Acquired MacEwen, Four Others on Waivers

Devils Place Zack MacEwen on Waivers Just One Day After Trade

The New Jersey Devils have made a series of roster moves, most notably placing forward Zack MacEwen on waivers a mere day after acquiring him from the Ottawa Senators. This surprising decision is part of a larger wave of players being placed on waivers as the team shapes its roster.

MacEwen's Brief Tenure with the Devils

MacEwen, 29, was traded to the Devils on Friday in exchange for forward Kurtis MacDermid. His unexpected placement on waivers raises questions about the team's plans and roster composition. Last season with the Senators, the 6-foot-4 centreman appeared in 21 games, notching two goals, three points, and 21 penalty minutes. He also contributed seven goals and 16 points in 23 games with the AHL's Belleville Senators.

MacEwen's Career Overview

Originally an undrafted free agent signed by the Vancouver Canucks in 2017, MacEwen has accumulated 17 goals and 34 points in 237 career games across stints with the Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, and Senators. He is currently in the final season of a three-year, $2.33 million contract, carrying a cap hit of $775,000, and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the season's end.

Other Players Placed on Waivers

Alongside MacEwen, the Devils have also placed four other players on waivers, according to PuckPedia. These include Thomas Bordeleau, Angus Crookshank, Brian Halonen, and Colton White.

Details on Additional Waivers

Bordeleau, acquired from the San Jose Sharks in the offseason, posted 14 goals and 38 points in 59 AHL games with the San Jose Barracuda last season, also playing one game for the Sharks. Crookshank, a summer signing, recorded 22 goals and 40 points in 62 AHL games with Belleville, adding one assist in eight NHL games with the Ottawa Senators. Halonen appeared in two games for New Jersey last season. He had 27 goals and 40 points in 62 AHL games with the Utica Comets. White, also with the Comets, recorded 21 points in 61 games.

Devils' Recent Performance

The Devils are coming off a season where they finished third in the Metropolitan Division with a 42-33-7 record. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Carolina Hurricanes in five games.
