North Korea Vows 'Additional Military Measures' Against US Buildup, Allocates Strategic Assets

Kim Jong-un Vows to Counter US Military Buildup with Strategic Assets

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has stated that Pyongyang will allocate strategic assets and develop additional military measures in response to the growing US military presence in South Korea. This announcement comes ahead of the 80th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea, marked by a large-scale military parade.

Kim's Strategic Response to US Military Buildup

Speaking at a military exhibition, Kim Jong-un emphasized that North Korea's strategic interest in the region has increased proportionally with the US military buildup. He stated, "In direct proportion to the buildup of US forces in Korea, our strategic interest in the region has also increased, and we have accordingly allocated special assets to key targets of interest." He further added that North Korea would "undoubtedly develop additional military measures" to prepare for this buildup.

Upcoming Military Parade and Potential Weaponry Display

A significant military parade is scheduled for October 10th to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea. This event is expected to showcase North Korea's latest weaponry and military hardware. Analysts suggest that Pyongyang might unveil the next-generation Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile and potentially conduct a test launch around the anniversary.

North Korea's International Relations and Military Ties

North Korea has been strengthening its military ties with Russia, reportedly supporting President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine with troops and artillery. Kim Jong-un has also been aligning with China, recently attending a military parade in Beijing alongside Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Putin. This alignment suggests a shift in geopolitical strategies in the region.

South Korea's Response and Diplomatic Approaches

While Kim Jong-un maintains a hardline stance towards South Korea and the United States, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has expressed interest in a more dovish approach compared to his predecessor. However, South Korea's military has reported signs of preparations for the parade, including the movement of vehicles and military equipment, indicating a continued state of alert.
