Boat Capsizes Near Bunbury: Teenager in Critical Condition
Two people were hospitalized, including a teenager in critical condition, after a boat capsized off the coast of Bunbury, Western Australia on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred near The Cut, about 2.5 hours south of Perth, around 1pm.
Details of the Incident
Four people were onboard the vessel when it overturned. A teenager was transported to Bunbury Regional Hospital under priority conditions. A second person was also taken to the same hospital via normal road transport. The other two individuals on the boat were reportedly unharmed.
Emergency Response
A multi-agency response was initiated, involving Water Police, local volunteer sea rescue crews, and the RAC Rescue Helicopter. They responded to the water emergency at the location of the capsized vessel. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation, but 7NEWS has obtained footage showing the upturned hull in choppy waters.
Ongoing Investigation
“The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation,” a spokesperson for WA Police told 7NEWS. Authorities are working to determine what led to the boat overturning in the waters off Bunbury.
Recent Drowning Tragedy
This incident follows a recent drowning tragedy in the Moore River in Guilderton, north of Perth, on Tuesday. Tshering Penjor, 38, died near the popular holiday spot after slipping from a sandbank and disappearing underwater.
