Suspicious Package at Singapore Mosque: Minister Urges Calm

A suspicious package discovered at Masjid Al-Istiqamah in Singapore led to one female staff member being hospitalized. Acting Minister for Islamic Affairs, Faisal, visited the mosque to participate in morning prayers and appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation.

Incident at Masjid Al-Istiqamah

On Wednesday, September 24th, at approximately 5:20 PM, a suspicious package was found at Masjid Al-Istiqamah, located on Serangoon North Avenue 2 in Singapore. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) investigated and confirmed that the package did not contain any harmful substances. However, one individual experienced breathing difficulties and was taken to Sengkang General Hospital.

Minister Faisal's Response

Faisal, who also serves as Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs, visited the scene on Wednesday evening to assess the situation. He assured the media that the government is taking the matter seriously and conducting a thorough investigation. He later posted on Facebook Thursday morning that the mosque has resumed normal operations and that he attended morning prayers at Masjid Al-Istiqamah. Faisal reassured Muslims present that the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) and the mosque management are prepared to provide assistance to Muslims and staff.

Call for Calm and Unity

“The Singapore Police Force is continuing its investigations. I urge everyone to remain calm, stay vigilant, and not spread false information,” stated Faisal. He also mentioned visiting the hospitalized staff member on Wednesday evening, noting that she is in good condition. He expressed his gratitude for the support and concern shown not only by the Muslim community but also by people of other faiths, emphasizing that this incident underscores the importance of a close-knit society that must be cherished and protected.
