WTA Korea Open Kicks Off in Seoul: Siniakova, Krueger, and Boisson Lead Day 1 Lineup

WTA Seoul Day 1 Predictions Including Lois Boisson vs Yeonwoo Ku

The WTA Tour is moving to Asia and this part of the season kicks off with the Korea Open in Seoul. Doubles star Katerina Siniakova is in main draw action on Monday, alongside Roland Garros sensation Lois Boisson. Ashlyn Krueger, who typically does well on this side of the globe, faces Eva Lys in the opening round. Who do you think will advance?

WTA Seoul Day 1 Predictions

Katerina Siniakova vs Sohyun Park

Head-to-head: First meeting

This will be Sohyun Park’s 6th appearance in Seoul and she typically wasn’t leaving much of an impression. The 23-year-old pulled off a couple of wins in qualifying draws, but will be looking for her first big win at this tournament. Considering she’s coming off a long stretch of playing on clay, she probably won’t even have that much of an advantage of Siniakova in terms of being adjusted to the conditions. After all, it’s the doubles World No. 2 that already got two matches under her belt this week. She should be comfortable.

Prediction: Siniakova in 2

Ashlyn Krueger vs Eva Lys

Head-to-head: First meeting

Ashlyn Krueger likes this part of the season, having claimed her only WTA Tour title in Osaka two years ago. The conditions tend to be quite fast and suit her power-oriented game. While she hasn’t exploded like some thought she might, the American remains a player that feels like she’s constantly on the cusp of a big breakthrough. Considering she ended the US Open fitter than Eva Lys (who retired in the second round), she looks like the favorite here. Well, at least she’s got the stronger upside of the two on her day.

Prediction: Krueger in 3

Lois Boisson vs Yeonwoo Ku

Head-to-head: First meeting

It remains to be seen what Lois Boisson can do on the main tour in the long term. After making the semifinals at Roland Garros, the Frenchwoman also took the title in Hamburg but played only two matches in the North American hard court swing. Just before going to Asia, she hired the renowned Carlos Martinez to be her coach. It will take time for some of the new ideas to be implemented, but the reality is she’s gotten a really nice draw here against Yeonwoo Ku, who gets her first main draw wildcard in Seoul.

Prediction: Boisson in 2
