Former Manitoba RCMP Constable Charged with Theft and Breach of Trust
A former Manitoba RCMP constable, Ben Harder, has been charged with theft and breach of trust after allegedly stealing approximately $300 from a vehicle during a traffic stop in Portage la Prairie last year. The alleged incident occurred on November 19, 2024.
Details of the Allegations and Investigation
According to an RCMP news release, a public complaint was received on November 27, 2024, alleging that the officer stole the money during a traffic stop approximately a week earlier. The RCMP West District led the investigation, and it was monitored by the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba.
Resignation and Court Appearance
Ben Harder resigned from the RCMP in January while the investigation was underway. Witnesses, including other RCMP officers and the complainant, were interviewed as part of the investigation. He was served with a summons by Norfolk County Ontario Provincial Police on Thursday and is scheduled to appear in court in Portage la Prairie on October 21.
