Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island and Emerald Rush DLC Launches Today with Free Demo
The critically acclaimed Donkey Kong Bananza for Nintendo Switch 2 is expanding with the release of the DK Island and Emerald Rush DLC today. Announced during the latest Nintendo Direct, this paid DLC introduces new areas, gameplay modes, and cosmetic items, and a free demo is now available on the Nintendo eShop.
Explore DK Island and Master Emerald Rush
DK Island is a brand-new level featuring nostalgic elements from Donkey Kong's past, including a massive stone Kong face ripe for climbing and destruction. Instead of the familiar gold, this area is rich in emerald, which is integral to the new Emerald Rush mode.
In Emerald Rush, players race against the clock to collect as many emeralds as possible while exploring DK Island and other existing areas. Failing to meet mini-goals within the time limit will end the run prematurely, adding a layer of challenge and intensity.
Roguelike Mining and Cosmetic Rewards
Beyond DK Island, the DLC offers a unique roguelike mode where players can work for the game's villain in his mining company after completing the main story. In this mode, players smash emeralds as fast as possible to achieve high scores. Runs include finding powerful artifacts that grant random, stackable passive bonuses to aid Donkey Kong in his emerald-collecting endeavors. Successful runs unlock currency for cosmetic items and statues to decorate DK Island.
Critical Acclaim and Development
Donkey Kong Bananza, developed by members of the Super Mario Odyssey team, launched in July to widespread acclaim. IGN's Donkey Kong Bananza review awarded the game a perfect score, calling it "a truly groundbreaking 3D platformer...Nintendo’s first Switch 2 masterpiece." The new DLC promises to add even more depth and replayability to this already celebrated title.
