Yves Tumor Clashes with Swedish House Mafia Fans After Being Booed Offstage
Yves Tumor has responded to being booed offstage during their opening set for Swedish House Mafia at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York, on Thursday, September 11th. The experimental artist expressed their frustration on social media, calling the audience "the corniest people I've ever seen."
The Incident
Footage circulating online shows portions of the crowd booing Tumor's set, which featured industrial electronic music. One Reddit post claims that Tumor responded to the negative reception with provocative statements. Despite the booing, Tumor reportedly stated, "You don't gotta like it, I'm still getting paid."
Yves Tumor took to Instagram Stories to further address the incident. In a video, they stated, "If anyone’s curious how the show went, I just got booed offstage for playing the best set of the night by a bunch of the corniest people I've ever seen in my fucking life," adding, "This city is truly hell on earth." They compared the experience unfavorably to other major cities.
Social Media Response
Following the performance, Tumor shared screenshots of negative comments received on their social media. However, not all feedback was negative. A message from Alexander Wessely, a collaborator of Swedish House Mafia, surfaced, expressing regret over the audience's reaction and praising Tumor's performance. "I'm so sorry, that was fucked up you killed it… me and the guys loved it," the message read.
EDM Community Reacts
The incident has sparked discussion within the electronic dance music (EDM) community regarding the clash of subgenres and audience expectations. Superstar DJ deadmau5 commented on the situation, observing that the reactions highlight the diverse nature of EDM. Commenting on a post from EDM House Network, he wrote, “This entire comment section is a great litmus test of what EDM is all about right here.”
It appears unlikely that Yves Tumor will be opening for Swedish House Mafia again in the near future.
