Charges Laid in Fatal Whitemud Drive Collision That Claimed Edmonton Man's Life
Three months after a tragic collision on Whitemud Drive, charges have been laid against the semi-truck driver involved in the death of an Edmonton man, Ashton Wilson. The incident occurred on June 17th and the charges were announced on October 1st.
The Tragic Incident
On June 17th, Ashton Wilson was driving with his four-year-old daughter on Whitemud Drive near the 111 Street overpass. He pulled over to inspect his vehicle when he was struck by an oncoming semi-truck. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene. His daughter was taken to the Stollery Children’s Hospital as a precaution and was unharmed.
Remembering Ashton Wilson
Two days after the crash, Global News interviewed Ashton Wilson’s fiancée, Miranda Sharp. She shared that they had recently become engaged during a family vacation to Disney World after five years together. The LGBTQ2 couple were planning their wedding for next summer and had begun the process of having another child with a sperm donor. Sharp described Wilson as a teacher at the School for the Deaf, emphasizing his commitment to inclusion and accessibility.
Dangerous Driving Charges
Following an investigation by the EPS Major Collision Investigations Section, Bhupinder Singh, 38, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death in connection with the fatal collision. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m. on June 17th.
