Goderich Woman Charged with Criminal Negligence After Dog Attacks
A Goderich woman is facing a criminal negligence charge following two separate dog attacks in the same neighborhood. The incidents, which occurred nearly a year apart, resulted in injuries to two people and the death of one dog. Huron County OPP are investigating the case.
Details of the Dog Attacks
The first incident occurred on August 3, 2024, on Gibbons Street in Goderich. According to police reports, two unleashed dogs attacked a pedestrian who was walking their pets. Tragically, one of the pedestrian's dogs was killed in the attack, and the victim required medical attention. The owner of the attacking dogs was initially charged under Ontario’s Dog Owner Liability Act (DOLA).
Almost a year later, on July 29, 2025, the same dogs were allegedly involved in a second attack in the same area. This time, the victim was using a mobility scooter and walking their dog when they were attacked. Both the victim and their dog sustained injuries.
Criminal Charges and Court Appearance
Following the second incident, a 36-year-old woman from Goderich has been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm. She was arrested, processed, and subsequently released from custody. Her court appearance is scheduled for October 6, 2025, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.
Dogs' Status and DOLA Hearing
The two dogs involved in the attacks remain in the owner's possession. Their fate will be determined pending the outcome of a Dog Owner Liability Act (DOLA) hearing. The OPP are continuing their investigation into the incidents.
