Iqaluit Under Shelter-in-Place After Overnight Shots Fired, RCMP Investigates

Iqaluimmiut are still under a shelter-in-place alert which was issued overnight after reports of a shots being fired inside a home.

In a news release Saturday morning, Nunavut RCMP said officers received a call about a firearm being used on Tasilik Street just before 1 a.m. When police arrived on scene, RCMP said they heard additional shots from the residence.

Roughly 25 minutes later, a shelter-in-place alert was issued, advising residents to stay inside, lock doors, and stay away from windows.

RCMP said officers are still on scene, though police have not stated if anybody has been arrested.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area around the 2200s.

No injuries have been reported.
