Photographer Wins Award for Stunning Drone Image of Misty Morning Trees

Christopher Harrison, a photographer from near Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, has won a prestigious award at the Siena Awards, the world's leading international drone photography competition, for his breathtaking drone image capturing trees casting shadows into early-morning mist. The award was presented on September 27th in Italy.

The Winning Image: "The Long Shadow"

The captivating image, titled "The Long Shadow," was taken at Brightwell Barrow near the Wittenham Clumps. It depicts a small cluster of trees standing atop a small, raised hill, their shadows stretching dramatically into the surrounding mist. The image perfectly encapsulates the beauty of the Oxfordshire countryside.

Harrison himself describes the image as showcasing "a perspective that you can only get with the flexibility a drone can give you." This unique aerial vantage point allowed him to capture the ephemeral beauty of the scene, where the mist sits at the perfect level to allow the trees to cast long shadows as the sun rises.

Capturing the Perfect Moment

According to Christopher Harrison, the photograph's success lies in capturing that rare moment when "the mist can sit at perfectly the right level, where the trees essentially cast a shadow into the mist directly just as the sun comes up above the horizon." He emphasizes the importance of being in the right place at the right time to witness and capture such a scene.

While the image may appear simple at first glance, Harrison notes that closer inspection reveals intricate details within the trees and the surrounding fields, adding depth and complexity to the composition. His love for the outdoors and dedication to capturing the beauty of nature are evident in this award-winning photograph.

The Siena Awards Experience

Harrison described the Siena Awards ceremony as "a fantastic event, mingling with some of the best photographers across the world." He expressed his joy at being able to connect with other talented individuals in the field and share his passion for photography.

Future Plans and Local Exhibitions

Despite having a full-time job, Mr. Harrison plans to continue exploring and photographing the "amazing locations" across Oxfordshire and Berkshire. He also has a couple of exhibitions coming up later in the year locally in Henley. He looks forward to showcasing his work and continuing to capture the beauty of his local area.
