Kelvin Gastelum Misses Weight by Five Pounds for Noche UFC 3, Fate with UFC in Question

Kelvin Gastelum's Weight Miss Jeopardizes UFC Future at Noche UFC 3

Kelvin Gastelum's future with the UFC is uncertain after a significant weight miss ahead of Noche UFC 3. He weighed in at 191 pounds for his scheduled middleweight bout against Dustin Stoltzfus, five pounds over the limit (including the one-pound allowance for non-title fights). This incident raises questions about his commitment and could put his job on the line.

Gastelum's Weight Issues and Recent Performance

This weight miss is particularly concerning given Gastelum's history. He was previously banned from competing at welterweight and had a prior "extremely disappointing" weight miss at UFC Saudi Arabia. Adding to the pressure, Gastelum has lost seven of his last ten fights. His track record has put him in Dana White's "doghouse," making this recent infraction even more consequential.

Gastelum acknowledged the high stakes, stating to MMA Junkie that he and Stoltzfus were in a position where the loser "might have to go home." Now, Gastelum may face that prospect regardless of the fight's outcome.

Noche UFC 3 Fight Card and Implications

Despite the weight miss, Dustin Stoltzfus agreed to proceed with the fight, receiving 35% of Gastelum's purse. The three-round fight between Gastelum and Stoltzfus is currently scheduled on the main card, behind Jared Gordon vs. Rafa Garcia, Rob Font vs. David Martinez, and the main event featuring Diego Lopes vs. Jean Silva. The event takes place at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The Noche UFC 3 card features a number of high-stakes match-ups. In the main event, former Featherweight title challenger, Diego Lopes, faces dynamic striker, Jean Silva. Rob Font takes on David Martinez in the co-headliner.

Noche UFC 3 is scheduled for Sat., Sept. 13, 2025 and streamed on ESPN+.
