Super Mario Galaxy centers on Rosalina, a space princess with similarities to Princess Peach. Her backstory, revealed through a storybook within the game, depicts her search for her long-lost parents. During a conversation with Mario, Peach reveals her hazy origins, recounting how she arrived in the Mushroom Kingdom as a toddler via a warp pipe. Dressed in a skirt adorned with stars and moons, she was found and raised by Toads, eventually becoming their princess. This detail, combined with Peach's comment about "a huge universe out there, with a lot of galaxies," has been interpreted by some as a nod to her own galactic origins and a potential link to Rosalina.

Coinciding with the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary, Nintendo is releasing a flood of new Mario-themed content. This includes a compilation of both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Switch 2, a new sports game Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder and a new Yoshi game, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Most importantly, the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie, slated for release on April 3, 2026, will provide a great opportunity to address the fan theories surrounding Peach and Rosalina's origin. The movie will bring back the original voice cast including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Jack Black as Bowser.
