According to the Hampton Police Division (HPD), officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1000 block of Coliseum Drive around 9:30 p.m. ET. They found two men with laceration injuries, one of which was life-threatening. A third man later arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening wound. Investigations revealed that an argument among several individuals escalated into a physical altercation.
Corporal Shaun Stalnaker of the HPD reported that one victim died at a local hospital from his injuries. The suspect fled the scene on foot but was later detained. Police have stated that they have identified all parties involved and believe this to be an isolated incident. An increased police presence was implemented for the remaining Phish concerts scheduled at the Hampton Coliseum.
Phish's Response
The band Phish released a statement on social media addressing the tragic event. They expressed their sadness and offered condolences to those affected. The band emphasized that they had limited information beyond what was reported by the police.
"During last night’s show, a tragic incident took place in the parking lot outside Hampton Coliseum. There was an altercation behind one of the tents in the unofficial vending area in which someone lost their life and two other people were injured. We don’t have more information than what has been reported by the police, who called it an isolated incident, but what we do know is upsetting enough. We are deeply saddened by this and our hearts go out to all of those affected."
Impact and Aftermath
Despite the incident, Phish continued with their scheduled performances at the Hampton Coliseum on Saturday and Sunday, which concluded their summer tour. The band is scheduled to perform a series of New Year's Eve shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City from December 28-31, 2025.
