Tropical Storm Imelda formed in the Atlantic on Sunday and is expected to become a hurricane this week.

The storm, which dumped rain and churned up seas near the Bahamas and Cuba, is expected to curve away from the U.S. East Coast earlier in the week.

The storm is expected to approach the Georgia and South Carolina coasts on Tuesday, potentially as a strong tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane. Due to no landfall expected, the flooding threat is now lower.

On Saturday, North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein declared a state of emergency ahead of the possible heavy rain and flooding.
