Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu Ready to Testify Amid Corruption Allegations

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu Ready to Address Allegations Before Madlanga Commission

Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has stated his readiness to respond to allegations of misconduct before the Madlanga Commission of Enquiry. The controversy stems from accusations that he interfered in police operations, particularly concerning the disbandment of a task team investigating political killings in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mchunu's Stance and Public Appearance

Mchunu made these remarks while visiting the family of the late ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, in kwaMbonambi. He expressed eagerness to clear his name and views the commission as an opportunity to present his version of events. This public appearance followed his suspension amidst the ongoing investigation.

According to reports, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi alleges that Mchunu interfered with police operations. Mchunu welcomes the opportunity to address these claims directly before the Madlanga Commission.

Accusations and the Political Killings Task Team

Mchunu faces serious accusations, including claims that he was influenced by criminal elements to disband the SAPS political killings task team. The task team was investigating politically motivated murders in KwaZulu-Natal. He is also expected to address his relationship with Brown Mogotsi, a controversial businessman from North West, a connection he has acknowledged.

At the Musa Dladla African National Congress Memorial Lecture, Mchunu stated, “I am very glad that I will finally present all the facts and give my side of the story. To me, this is a great opportunity to explain myself.” This event marked his first public appearance since his suspension.

ANC's Position on Brown Mogotsi

African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has distanced the party from Brown Mogotsi, stating that he is no longer a member of the organization. "Brown Mogotsi, in a nutshell, is not a member of the ANC. We will never take him to the disciplinary committee for anything. He must account for whatever he is accused of, with whoever in the ANC he is accused of having dealings with." This statement highlights the ANC's attempt to separate itself from the controversy surrounding Mogotsi and his alleged involvement with Mchunu.
