Trimac Transportation Acquires Service Transport Company, Expanding U.S. Chemical Hauling Network
Trimac Transportation, a Canadian bulk hauler headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, has acquired Service Transport Company (STC), a Houston-based chemical carrier. This acquisition strengthens Trimac's presence in the U.S. chemical transportation market and provides Service Transport's customers with access to new capabilities.
Strategic Acquisition for Growth
The acquisition of Service Transport Company marks Trimac's 19th transaction since 2019, showcasing its commitment to strategic growth through acquisitions. Bill Marchbank, Trimac's SVP of mergers and acquisitions integrations, emphasized the rarity of opportunities to acquire a company like Service Transport, highlighting the strategic importance of this deal.
"We want to grow... We’ve been in growth mode. This marks our 19th transaction since 2019... We believe we can grow organically, too—and we have an initiative to do that—but we also know that growth through acquisition is something we’re going to have to do, and that we want to do." - Bill Marchbank, Trimac SVP of mergers and acquisitions integrations
Service Transport Company: A Key Player in Chemical Transportation
Founded in 1965, Service Transport Company serves local chemical producers, transporting liquids such as hydrogen peroxide, acrylic acid, and solvents. The company operates a fleet of approximately 290 tractors (with 300 drivers) and 750 trailers from 16 locations across the Gulf Coast. Wade Harrison, Service Transport president, noted the accelerated growth path created by this acquisition, especially in the current freight market.
Synergies and Future Opportunities
Trimac and Service Transport anticipate creating synergies through this acquisition, identifying new opportunities within their combined network. Both companies acknowledged the challenging freight market, particularly on the chemical side, making this collaboration even more strategic for optimizing the bottom line. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Executive Perspectives
"Service Transport Company has built a reputation for safety, reliability and customer service, and we are thrilled to welcome them into the Trimac family," said Matt Faure, Trimac president and CEO. "Their expertise in chemical hauling aligns perfectly with our long-term growth strategy, and together we will strengthen our ability to deliver safe, reliable and efficient transportation solutions."
Trimac's Expanding Footprint
With this acquisition, Trimac now operates more than 140 locations in the U.S. and Canada, supported by a team of 3,400 employees. This expansion follows Trimac's earlier acquisitions this year, including Searcy Trucking in August and Watt & Stewart in January, further solidifying its position in the transportation industry.
