Rob Brydon to Host New ITV Prime-Time Game Show 'The Floor'

Rob Brydon Lands New ITV Game Show: The Floor

Rob Brydon, the beloved star of Gavin & Stacey, is set to host a brand new ITV game show called The Floor. This marks a departure from his iconic sitcom role and his recent stint on BBC's Destination X, presenting him with a prime-time opportunity on commercial television.

The Floor: A New Quiz Show Format

The Floor is based on a popular American format, originally from the Netherlands, and pits 81 contestants against each other in a battle of wits and specialist knowledge. The set features a large, illuminated floor divided into a grid of squares. Each contestant starts on a square representing their chosen category.

The aim of the game is to conquer as much "territory" as possible by challenging adjacent opponents to quiz duels. The winner takes the loser's square, while the defeated player is eliminated. The last contestant standing wins a £50,000 jackpot.

Rob Brydon's Excitement and ITV's Investment

Rob Brydon has expressed his excitement about hosting The Floor, describing it as "like no other – big, bold and bursting with excitement." He looks forward to guiding contestants through the competition. ITV executives are equally enthusiastic, hoping Brydon's warmth and humor will make the show a Saturday night staple. Katie Rawcliffe, ITV's Director of Entertainment, calls Brydon a "hilarious national treasure."

A Global Phenomenon

The Floor has already gained popularity in numerous countries, including the Netherlands, Australia, Poland, Spain, and the United States, where it is hosted by Rob Lowe. The UK version will be filmed at Talpa's Dutch production hub and is set to air next year. South Shore, the production company behind All or Nothing: Arsenal, is producing the series.

Brydon Reflects on Gavin & Stacey Role

Before taking on the role of Uncle Bryn in Gavin & Stacey, Rob Brydon confessed to having initial hesitations. He had concerns about being typecast, as his previous role in Marion and Geoff shared similarities with the character. However, he ultimately decided to embrace the opportunity, a decision he is thankful for.
