Key Texas A&M Starters Marcel Reed and Trey Zuhn Cleared to Play Against No. 8 Notre Dame

ESPN insider provides two key injury updates for Texas A&M before facing Notre Dame

Texas A&M's massive Week 3 road test vs. No. 8 Notre Dame will be one of several primetime matchups with a bevy of postseason implications, while second-year head coach Mike Elko is looking for his first signature road win after falling to Auburn and Texas during the Aggies' 1-4 skid to end his inaugural campaign.

Over the last ten-plus years, Texas A&M's 2012 season, which featured Heisman-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel's historic performance, was by far the most exciting Aggie season, ending with 11 wins, a record that has yet to be topped since. Under former head coach Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M has only achieved nine wins twice, with the poor streak continuing after the 2024 season ended 8-5.

After losing to Notre Dame 23-13 in Kyle Field during the 2024 season-opener, Elko went to work, retaining 72% of his 2024 roster while adding 14 players from the transfer portal. After starting 2-0 with decisive wins over UTSA and Utah State, starting quarterback Marcel Reed and transfer wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver have looked the part. At the same time, the offensive line has held up for the most part.

However, during the fourth quarter against Utah State, Marcel Reed went down with an apparent injury, leaving the game, paired with starting left tackle Trey Zuhn, who also left the game early due to injury.

This week, Mike Elko confirmed that both players were "good to go," which was further confirmed by ESPN college football insider Peter Thamel during the ESPN College Gameday program that both Reed and Zuhn practiced throughout the week, and will start tonight against Notre Dame.

For Texas A&M to have any chance at pulling off the upset, Marcel Reed's arm, and likely his legs, will be the key to explosive plays, while the offensive line needs to play its best game, especially opening up holes in the run game.
