Charge+ and XPeng Motors Launch EV Fast-Charging Network in Southeast Asia

Singapore-based EV charging operator Charge+ has partnered with Chinese EV manufacturer XPeng Motors to launch a new electric vehicle charging network in Southeast Asia. The initial rollout includes charging stations in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, promising faster charging speeds than most existing EV infrastructure.

Initial Charging Station Locations

The initial phase of the project will see four charging stations established across the region. These stations are located at Royal Square@Novena and Downtown East in Singapore, KL Eco City in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and One Bangkok in Thailand. This marks XPeng's first charging network in the ASEAN region.

High-Speed Charging Capabilities

The network will primarily consist of direct current (DC) fast-charging stations with a maximum charging power of up to 350 kW. This is significantly higher than many existing charging stations, including Tesla Superchargers, which offer a maximum charging power of 250 kW. These stations are accessible to all EV owners, with XPeng owners receiving discounted charging rates at these and existing Charge+ locations.

Investment and Future Expansion

According to Charge+ President Goh Chee Kiong, the first phase of charging stations is fully funded and operated by Charge+. "In the second phase, XPeng will introduce their ultra-fast charging technology from China into the network, and we will jointly share the investment costs." The companies aim to expand the network to Indonesia by 2026, increasing the number of charging stations to 20, strategically located in commercial centers, retail malls, and highway rest stops.

Ultra-Fast Charging Technology

Future charging stations within the network will feature XPeng's proprietary fast-charging technology, offering charging power of up to 480 kW. With this technology, compatible XPeng vehicles can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 12 minutes. In contrast, Tesla's Superchargers typically require around 30 minutes for a similar charge.

Competitive Landscape

The electric vehicle charging technology market is becoming increasingly competitive. BYD has recently introduced 1000 kW charging technology, although it is not yet commercially available. Nio, also listed in Singapore, has announced plans to enter the local market in the first quarter of 2026 and is evaluating the possibility of introducing battery swapping technology.

Accessibility and Market Impact

Goh Chee Kiong believes that various charging technologies will ultimately co-exist, stating, "We hope that EV charging facilities will be truly accessible to every community in the areas where we operate. Scale and connectivity are essential to provide drivers with peace of mind and confidence." According to recent data, XPeng registered 153 new EVs in Singapore between July and August, ranking fifth in the market. BYD sold 1657 vehicles, while Tesla sold 718.
