Area of south Belfast closed off following security alert
Suspicious devices left outside a south Belfast property that led to the evacuation of residents from their homes are believed to be hoaxes.
Two devices were left outside a home in the Belvoir area of the city. It was reported to police just before 9am on Thursday.
“We received a report...that two suspicious devices had been left outside a residential address in Castleward Park,” a PSNI spokesperson said.
Ammunition technical officers at scene in the Belvoir estate in south Belfast.
”Cordons were implemented and a number of nearby houses were evacuated.“
Bomb squad experts were sent to the scene and examined the devices.
“The items have been taken away for forensic examination, but at this stage we believe this was an elaborate hoax,” the PSNI said.
”This was a distressing experience for the residents of the property and those who live nearby, who had to deal with the discomfort and inconvenience of being put out of their homes."
The police thanked people “for their patience while we worked to ensure the area was safe”.
