World Teachers' Day Highlights Global Education Challenges: Calls for Collaboration in Cameroon, Funding Demands in Ontario and Detroit

The educational community has acknowledged government’s commitment to national education as they commemorate the 31st Teacher’s Day yesterday October 5, 2025.

Educators in the country have reemphasized the importance of collaboration in building sustainable and resilient schools that align with national aspirations, shape the nation's future, and restore the teaching profession to its former glory. This call to action was made during the 31st World Teachers' Day celebrations in Yaounde yesterday October 5, 2025. The event's theme, "Recasting Teaching as A Collaborative Profession," underscored the need for collective efforts to strengthen the education system.

During an event organised by the Ministries of Basic and Secondary Education, the Minister of Secondary Education, Professor Nalova Lyonga, emphasised that teaching is a profession that necessitates collaboration not only among teachers, but also with the government and the community. Minister Nalova Lyonga noted that the occasion was an opportunity to reflect on how to revamp the teaching profession by learning from past mistakes and avoiding their repetition. While commending the President of the Republic for his visionary leadership in guiding educational policies, Nalova Lyonga stated that under his stewardship, education remains a key driver of national development, social cohesion, and economic growth. The President's commitment to education is evident, she observed, citing the proliferation of schools that has brought education closer to communities. To be recognised as effective educators, she urged teachers to demonstrate competence and a willingness to collaborate with the Head of State in his endeavours. “Let us work together to build a brighter future for our children and our nation. I am proud of the work that you do, and I know that together, we can achieve great things,” the Minister of Secondary Education told the teachers.
