Hugh Jackman Seeks Peace With Ex-Wife Amid Divorce, While MCU Confirms No Return for Jackman's Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness: Navigating Divorce and Marvel's Future

Recent reports suggest that Hugh Jackman is making an effort to mend fences with his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, primarily for the well-being of their two children, Oscar and Ava. Simultaneously, conflicting news surrounds Jackman and Ryan Reynolds' future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), particularly regarding their involvement in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday (2026).

Reconciling for the Children

According to sources, Jackman, 56, is striving to put aside past grievances with Furness, 69, to create a more harmonious environment for their children. An insider stated, "It’s been two years now since they officially separated and it really is time to let the hatred and anger go." They have reportedly met in New York to discuss their issues, with hopes of improving their relationship for Oscar, 25, and Ava, 20.

The couple's divorce was allegedly fueled by accusations of Jackman's infidelity, leading to significant tension. Furness is reportedly angry about the separation. Sources claim that Debs feels conflicted because Hugh has moved on to a relationship with his Broadway co-star, Sutton Foster, 50. However, insiders believe her reconciliation efforts are primarily motivated by her dedication as a mother.

Deadpool and Wolverine: MCU Status

Despite the success of Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), which grossed $1.3 billion worldwide, it appears that Disney and Marvel have no immediate plans to bring back Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as Deadpool and Wolverine in future installments. There are rumors that Reynolds may reprise his role, but this is unconfirmed.

While Avengers: Doomsday (2026) boasts a star-studded cast, including returning MCU actors like Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom, neither Deadpool nor Wolverine seem to be included in the primary lineup. A plethora of X-Men actors, such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden, are expected to appear.

New Iterations of Deadpool and Wolverine

While Reynolds might not be returning to the big screen imminently, the character of Deadpool lives on. A new Deadpool game, "Deadpool VR", is in development, with Neil Patrick Harris lending his voice to the Merc with a Mouth. Similarly, Insomniac Games is developing a Wolverine game for PlayStation 5, but Hugh Jackman will not be reprising his role.

Future Prospects

The MCU is expected to enter "The Mutant Saga" after the conclusion of "The Multiverse Saga" with Avengers: Doomsday. Whether Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will return to play their respective characters in this new era remains uncertain. Other upcoming Marvel projects include Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), as well as an untitled X-Men film.
