Erin Bates of 'Bringing Up Bates' Celebrates Walking Milestone After Sepsis Recovery
Erin Bates, known for her role on the reality TV show 'Bringing Up Bates,' has shared an uplifting update on her health journey. After battling sepsis and experiencing difficulties walking following the birth of her seventh child, Henry, she has taken her first steps in weeks.
A Difficult Postpartum Period
Following the birth of baby Henry, Erin Bates experienced serious health complications. Her husband, Chad Paine, revealed that Erin suffered a "lengthy and severe seizure" during her ICU stay due to a severe UTI and kidney infection that led to septic shock.
In an Instagram post on October 2nd, Erin Bates described the emotional toll of her physical limitations. "For weeks, my leg has not worked (since my seizure in the hospital). I’ve been carried, wheeled, and held up through tears and prayers… and today — it moved."
Taking the First Steps
Erin's Instagram update included photos of her family of nine and expressed immense gratitude for the progress she's made. "Today I took steps," she wrote. "They might be a little wobbly, but they are steps I wasn’t sure I’d ever take again." She also thanked her doctors, nurses, and therapists for their dedication to her recovery.

"to sit by her side and watch her struggle while being so helpless to ease her suffering. I love her more deeply than words can express, and I can’t even imagine life without my best friend."
