A red alert for rain has been issued by Spain's meteorological agency for the holiday islands of Ibiza and Formentera, with as much as 180mm (7in) of rainfall expected in a 12-hour window.
The red alert for rain began at 11:00 local time (10:00 BST; 09:00 GMT) on Tuesday and is in place for several hours until 16:00. The Spanish island also issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, from 08:00 until 18:00 on Tuesday.
Firefighters in Ibiza were deployed to rescue people believed to be trapped inside their vehicles and homes, the island's local authorities said.
Access to the towns of Sant Antoni de Portmany and Santa Eulària are closed, local media report, and Ibiza's E-10 main road is flooded.
