Brendan Donovan Nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award
The St. Louis Cardinals have nominated Brendan Donovan for the Roberto Clemente Award presented by Capital One in 2025. This prestigious award recognizes players who demonstrate outstanding character, community involvement, and humanitarian efforts, values embodied by Roberto Clemente himself.
Roberto Clemente: A Legacy of Service
Roberto Clemente was more than just a 15-time All-Star, 2-time World Series Champion, and Hall of Fame outfielder. He was a dedicated humanitarian who used his platform to help those in need. His tragic death on December 31, 1972, while delivering aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua, solidified his legacy of selfless service. In 1973, Major League Baseball renamed its Commissioner’s Award in his honor, creating the Roberto Clemente Award.
Brendan Donovan's Commitment to Community
Brendan Donovan's nomination highlights his dedication to giving back. He hosts kids through “Donovan’s Dugout,” supports veterans via The Kaufman Fund and Team Red, White & Blue, and actively promotes mental health awareness. His commitment to service includes Make-A-Wish events, upcoming charity shoots, and walks, reflecting a heartfelt dedication to making a difference. He states:
"Roberto Clemente set the standard for what it means to be a player who gives back. It’s an incredible honor to be nominated for this award, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to support causes that make a difference, especially those that serve our veterans and local communities."
