In one of the final scenes of M On The Bund, the film’s protagonist Michelle Garnaut makes a heartfelt observation.
“So much about China is really misunderstood by people who haven’t been there. There is this idea that the whole place is like a gulag, and it’s not,” says Melbourne-born Garnaut, who ran the iconic Shanghai restaurant, M on the Bund, for 23 years.
