Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Coming to Switch & Switch 2 in 2026
A completely rebuilt version of the classic RPG, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, is slated to arrive on Nintendo Switch and its successor, presumably Switch 2, on February 5th, 2026. This new version promises a fresh experience for both long-time fans and newcomers to the series.
A Message from Producer Takeshi Ichikawa
In a statement, Producer Takeshi Ichikawa shared insights into the development process of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined and the vision behind it. He emphasized the dedication to creating a game that resonates with a global audience.
Ichikawa explained that the team put significant thought into the game's visual direction. "When we decided to remake DRAGON QUEST VII, we thought deeply about the visual direction. We wanted audiences worldwide, not just in Japan, to grow fond of the charming characters designed by Akira Toriyama."
Reimagining the Visuals and Story
The development team embraced a unique approach to visually enhance the game. In order to depict the depth and feel of DRAGON QUEST VII’s story more vividly, we took on a new challenge for the DRAGON QUEST series: employing a hand-crafted art style and developing in-game environments that resembles dioramas." This diorama-like aesthetic aims to enrich the emotional connection with the characters and world.
Beyond visual enhancements, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined also focuses on improving the accessibility of the game's narrative. Ichikawa assures players that this reimagining makes the story more approachable for all.
A Satisfying Experience for All
According to Takeshi Ichikawa, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined offers something for everyone. "So, whether you enjoyed DRAGON QUEST VII on its original release, struggled to collect all the tablets, or are just experiencing the DRAGON QUEST series for the first time, we believe this game will provide a satisfying experience." He concluded with the hope that players will enjoy the new title.
