Iga Świątek Returns to Court at WTA Seoul, Set to Face Sorana Cîrstea in Second Round

Iga Świątek Returns to Action at WTA Seoul Against Sorana Cirstea

After a brief hiatus of just over two weeks, Iga Świątek is set to resume her tennis season! Following her quarterfinal exit at the US Open, where she was defeated by Amanda Anisimova, the Polish star is now focusing on the WTA 500 tournament in Seoul.

Świątek's Seoul Campaign Begins Against Cirstea

Iga Świątek, the top-ranked Polish player, enters the tournament in the second round, where she will face Sorana Cirstea. The Romanian player is currently ranked 66th in the world, making Świątek the clear favorite on paper. The match is expected to start around 8:30 AM.

However, Cirstea is a seasoned player who has a history of upsetting higher-ranked opponents, so Świątek will need to approach the match with full concentration to secure a victory.

Świątek's Essential Tennis Gear: Headphones and a Cap

Iga Świątek is considered the frontrunner to win the WTA 500 tournament in Seoul. She is the only player from the top 10 in the world rankings participating in the Korean event. Ahead of her first match, Świątek shared some insights into her essential tennis accessories.

When asked about one item she can't travel without in her tennis bag, Świątek replied: "Headphones, and I'll add a tennis cap. I can't play without it." She further elaborated on her attachment to the cap.

"In the beginning, when I was younger, I used it to hide my hair because I didn't like it. It's not the best reason, but that's the truth. Then, year after year, I got so used to it that when I had to play a practice without a cap, I was shocked because when I tossed the ball and served, I saw my racket. I was really surprised,"

Świątek also highlighted the importance of her headphones. She is often seen entering the court wearing them and revealed during Wimbledon that she relaxes by listening to rock music, including bands like Guns N' Roses and AC/DC.

Her rock playlist proved effective during Wimbledon, where she won the tournament for the first time in her career, even winning the final against Amanda Anisimova without losing a single game.
