Border Agency Seizes 48 Firearms, 17,000 Rounds of Ammunition in Windsor Home

Canada's border agency says it's seized 48 firearms, 17,000 rounds of ammunition and other firearm parts from a Windsor home.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSP) says its firearms smuggling enforcement team has been investigating since its officers intercepted four parcels from the U.S. in May and June — all destined for the same Windsor address.

The parcels contained firearm parts and tools for manufacturing firearms, the CBSA said.

On July 17, Windsor police's emergency services unit did a "tactical entry" into the home with a search warrant, the agency said. Officers seized the following:

48 firearms.

30 prohibited auto sears used to convert semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic machine guns.

Various firearms parts.

175 magazines of which 104 were prohibited, including four 50-round drum magazines.

About 17,000 rounds of ammunition.

"Dangerous firearms, firearms parts, and devices have been removed from circulation," said Abeid Morgan, director of the CBSA's Ontario Firearms Smuggling Enforcement Team.

A 30-year-old Windsor man has been arrested and is charged with the following:

One count of smuggling a controlled/regulated device.

One count of smuggling a prohibited device.

One count of unauthorized importation of a prohibited device.

One count of attempt to manufacture a firearm.

Two counts of possession of a prohibited device without a licence.

Three counts of improper storage of a firearm.

Three counts of possession of a firearm at a place other than indicated on a licence.

He was scheduled to appear in court Monday.
