Mr. Mamdani demonstrates strength across all racial groups. He holds a narrow lead over Mr. Cuomo among Black voters, with the current mayor, Mr. Adams, trailing in third. His lead is even more pronounced among Hispanic voters, suggesting a broad appeal.

Voters prioritize affordability, and the poll shows they trust Mr. Mamdani to address the city's challenges. 49 percent of voters trust Mr. Mamdani on affordability, compared to only 23 percent for Mr. Cuomo. Other candidates lag significantly behind, demonstrating Mamdani's perceived strength on this critical issue.

Popular Policy Proposals: Rent Freeze and Tax Increases

Mr. Mamdani's policy proposals resonate strongly with voters. His plan to freeze increases on rent-stabilized units enjoys widespread support, with nearly 70 percent of voters in favor, including majorities of Cuomo and Adams supporters. Similarly, his proposal to increase taxes on the wealthiest New Yorkers is also popular, according to the poll.

Voter Voices: A Desire for Change

Faith Dulaurier, a teacher from Flushing, Queens, highlights the sentiment driving Mamdani's support. "I want to see something new, different, actually active change," she stated, explaining how Mr. Mamdani's focus on affordability and his visibility throughout the city have won her over.

Mamdani Favored on Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

By a significant margin, likely voters also believe Mr. Mamdani has best addressed the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. Forty-three percent favor his position, compared to 16 percent for Mr. Cuomo, suggesting this issue is also contributing to his lead in the mayoral race.
