The daughter of former oil tycoon Lim Oon Kuin went on trial on Monday (6 Oct) for instructing an IT manager to delete data from the servers of the now collapsed Hin Leong Trading.
According to a Straits Times report of the trial, Lim Huey Ching gave the alleged instructions on 13 April 2020 which was the day before PwC was set to duplicate the information stored on the servers.
When asked how she pleaded to a charge accusing her of intending to obstruct the course of justice, the 58-year-old said: "I didn't do it."
Hin Leong, founded by OK Lim, famously grew from a one-truck operation into a family-held oil trading powerhouse. But the business fell into financial difficulties in 2020. In November last year, Hin Leong's 82-year-old founder was sentenced to 17-and-half years in jail for cheating HSBC Holdings and instigating forgery. He has appealed against his conviction and sentence.
The trial of his daughter Huey Ching resumes on Tuesday (7 Oct). You can read more details of Monday's court proceedings in the ST account.
