Wayne Rooney says he has “no faith” in Ruben Amorim as Manchester United manager and that the club have had their “soul” shredded.
Amorim slumped to another defeat at the weekend when Brentford bullied United en route to a 3-1 victory to pile the pressure on the Portuguese.
United have mustered just 34 points from 33 Premier League games under Amorim, who has yet to win back-to-back top-flight matches.
Despite mounting questions about Amorim’s suitability to the role and his 3-4-2-1 system, sources close to Sir Jim Ratcliffe have insisted the United co-owner is continuing to back the manager and feels he should not be judged until he has had a season with his team.
Club insiders have also dismissed suggestions they have been lining up potential replacements for Amorim, who only succeeded Erik ten Hag as head coach last November, since when United have spent more than £260m on new players.
Nonetheless, Rooney, the former United captain, does not believe Amorim is the man to fix the problems.
