Australian Government Welcomes Trump's Gaza Peace Plan Amid Calls for Two-State Solution

Welcome, readers, to Afternoon Update.

The Australian government has welcomed the Trump administration’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza and says it leaves the door open to a two-state solution.

Anthony Albanese called for all parties to engage with the plan and said that he had discussed the conflict with world leaders during his time abroad.

“Australia urges all parties to engage seriously with the plan and to work to bring its vision into reality without delay, together with our partners,” he told reporters from Abu Dhabi.

The US president, Donald Trump, announced the plan alongside the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, which states Gaza would be governed by a transitional “apolitical” committee. Read more about the plan here.

Mary Fowler has made her catwalk debut for L’Oréal during Paris fashion week. The Matildas and Manchester City football star signed with the cosmetics company last year.

“This will be my first time walking a runway so I am a little nervous, but while it’s a little outside of my comfort zone, the opportunity to walk alongside extraordinary women in a celebration of women’s empowerment, inclusion, and sisterhood is truly inspiring,” Fowler told Guardian Australia before the event.

“You consulted with Mastercard, you consulted with Microsoft, you consulted with Meta, you consulted with OpenAI … you consulted with a lot of other players but you didn’t consult with all the creative industries.”

The Productivity Commission was hounded by senators this morning during an inquiry hearing into copyright laws, artists and AI. In a somewhat rare scene, Liberal senator Sarah Henderson and Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young were on a unity ticket, with Hanson-Young saying the commission had “misread the value of the creative industry”.
