Traffic Alert Issued for Atlanta Ahead of Georgia Tech-Clemson Game Due to I-75/I-85 Lane Closures

Traffic Alert: Impact on Georgia Tech Football Game Day

Fans attending Saturday's Georgia Tech-Clemson football game at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field (Noon kickoff) should be aware of significant traffic impacts due to ongoing resurfacing on the I-75/I-85 Connector through Midtown and Downtown Atlanta.

I-75/I-85 Connector Lane Closures

The Georgia Department of Transportation will be resuming its resurfacing project this weekend, leading to lane closures that will likely cause congestion. Here's a breakdown of the planned closures:

  • Friday, Sept. 12 at 9 p.m. – Saturday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m.: 4 northbound lanes will be closed from Fair Drive to 17th Street.
  • Saturday, Sept. 13 – 10 a.m.-11 p.m.: 3 southbound lanes from Deering Road to University Avenue will be closed.

Expect Heavy Congestion

Expect heavy traffic and congestion throughout Midtown and Downtown Atlanta on Saturday. This is due to the planned lane closures on the I-75/I-85 Connector, coupled with several other large events happening in the city, including the Georgia Tech-Clemson game.

These lane closures will significantly slow down and complicate exiting I-75/I-85 near Georgia Tech’s campus.

Please note that these impacts are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen operational delays.

Recommendations for Fans

To mitigate the impact of traffic, fans driving to Saturday’s game are strongly encouraged to take the following steps:

  • DEPART FOR CAMPUS EARLY!!! All Georgia Tech parking areas open at 7 a.m. and the Helluva Block Party ft. Flo Rida begins at 8 a.m.
  • Consider taking alternate routes to campus.
  • Consider leaving vehicles at home and utilizing MARTA/rideshare.
