Franchise creator Shigeru Miyamoto has stated that the film will be a central part of the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary celebrations. While details remain scarce, the creative team behind the original film, including directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, screenwriter Matthew Fogel, and composer Brian Tyler, will be returning for this next adventure.

The teaser shows Mario snoozing peacefully under a tree, the camera following a butterfly's journey over familiar sights like Princess Peach's castle and creatures such as Monty Mole and Cheep Cheep. Finally, the butterfly enters outer space.

While the full cast list is yet to be released, several key voice actors from "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" are confirmed to return. Chris Pratt will once again voice Mario, alongside Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
