Gardai have appealed for privacy for the family involved in a suspected stabbing incident in Co Louth.
In an appeal on Tuesday morning, Superintendent Andrew Watters of Drogheda Garda Station said that Gardaí are "continuing an investigation into all of the circumstances of this family tragedy".
Named locally as Mark and Louise O’Connor, in their 50s, and their son Evan, who was in his 20s and had additional needs - all three sustained fatal injuries during the suspected stabbing incident that happened in their country stone cottage in a rural area between the three small Co Louth villages of Stonestown, Louth Village and Tallanstown.
A male known to them is suspected of killing them by fatally stabbing them. Emergency services responded to the scene on Monday morning but all three were pronounced dead.
In his appeal, Superintendent Watters described the O'Connor family as "a very well-known and respected family" and as "good neighbours and an integral part of their local community in Drumgowna and wider area of Louth and Monaghan".
He added that An Garda Síochána will also "closely support the local community in the Drumgowna area over the coming days as they come to terms with the violent death of their neighbours".
